Hey kids. How’s it going yo? Aren’t ya’ll just so lucky that I have been posting so much stuff in so short of a time? Well what can I say, I love my fans and if it’s posts they want well then it’s posts they’ll get! Today I want to take a little while to remember some places that were around a few years ago but are no longer with us. This town has really changed since I was a kid and we have a lot of cool places we used to didn’t but there’s still a lot of places that have went away as well. I’m very saddened that my kids someday will not get the pleasure of visiting these places. Alright enough of this introduction nonsense, on to the list!
1. Circuit City – Probably the most recently closed place on this list. I really really miss the City. I visited it often and bought many things from it’s Sunday ad. Circuit City, you will be missed.
2. Super K – Yeah our K-Mart was kinda trashy but still, it gave you a choice. If you didn’t want to go to walmart well then just drive over to the Super K. Other things to miss about our K-Mart include blue light specials, the full sized arcade they had, and yet another sunday ad. sniffle…..
3. Service Merchandise – I loved me some Service Merchandise. Especially when it was in the mall where the men’s Dilliards is now. They had a very sizable toy/videogame section. I will never forget playing the Sega Genesis for the first time at Sevice Merchandise. They also had a full sporting goods section as well. FunFact about Service Merchandise – I’m pretty sure my sister Cheryl registered here for her wedding. Epic!
4. KB Toys – It really is a shame that kids nowadays don’t even have a toy store in the mall. KB toys used to be in every mall and now they’re almost nonexsistent entirely. They made the mall trip so much more bearable when you had to go as a kid. They also always had a big bin of clearance videogames at all times.
5. Mazzios on Valley Mills Dr. – I really miss this place. I know there’s one in Hewitt but it’s not the same. I went to Mazzios countless times whenI was young. With my family, every Sunday night with church people, and so many times with just Mother Dear and Linda Perryman (weird huh?) who would always give me tokens to play Turltles arcade with. Mazzios was awesome. You could also bring in you’re report card and they would give you tokens for the A’s you had. It was pretty sweetness.
6. Doc and Laddys – I’m not sure if I’m spelling the name right but this place was awesome. They had videogames, bowling, putt putt, laser tag, and a skating rink. It was like the best place ever when you’re like 13. Fun Fact – it was the first place I ever had the pleasure of playing Crazy Taxi, one of my all time favorite games.
7. Winns – Winns rocked! It was like a mini Wal-Mart for small towns like Robinson. Me and my sisters would get so pumped when mom would take us to Winns and we could spend our $2 allowances. It was awesome!
8. Mr. Gatti’s – If we didn’t eat at Mazzios as mentioned earlier we were probably at Mr. Gatti’s. I have mad affection for Mr. Gatti’s. It used to be the only place with a big screen period. We went here so much. I have extra special memories of going here because we used to go here with Terry and Kathy and all the kids before they died. I can still remember riding with their family to Gatti’s. It really does not get any better then that kids.
9. Lion’s Park Volleyball courts -The best place ever for volleyball. That’s all that needs to be said.
10. J.T. McCords – Really awesome restaraunt that was the place to go before we had Chilis and Applebees. ( Man I’m Old!) They had great chips and chicken tenders. A win-wn!
Well kids thats all the places I can think of at the moment. I think we all would agree that this town would be a better place if these establishments were still here. However there are a few places that have gone away that I don’t miss. Here are a few of them – Mervyns, Lake Air Mall, Grandy’s, Ryans, Underwoods, Cox’s, Black Eyed Pea, Weiners, and MJ Designs are just a few that come to mind. You’ll notice that the majority of the places I don’t miss were restaraunts I hated or places Mother Dear dragged me when I was little. Anyway hope you kids enjoyed this trip down memory lane. Take it easy.
